Est. McIntosh, Alabama

Some Sweetness Is Worth the Drive

For generations, families have been pulling off Highway 43 just to taste what Johnson's makes by hand — real sugar cane syrup, cooked the old way, and served with a smile that makes you want to stay awhile.

Hand-Cooked Syrup

Our sugar cane syrup is boiled in traditional kettles, stirred by hand, and bottled fresh — just like they did a hundred years ago.

Local Ingredients

We source from nearby farms and growers whenever possible. Good food starts with good ingredients from this region.

Family Tradition

Three generations have kept the Johnson's Sugar Shack recipe alive. Every batch carries that same care and history.

Seasonal & Fresh

Sugar cane season runs from late fall through early spring, and when it's done, it's done. That's what makes it special.

Born on a Farm,
Raised on Syrup

Johnson's Sugar Shack didn't start as a restaurant. It started the way a lot of good things in this part of Alabama do — with a family, a patch of sugar cane, and a big iron pot over an open fire.

Over the years, neighbors kept showing up at the fence line asking what that wonderful smell was. Soon they were bringing chairs. Then they were asking for seconds. And somewhere along the way, the Johnson family realized they had something worth sharing with the whole town.

Today, we're still cooking in those same kettles. Still using the same family recipes. Still greeting everyone like they're stopping by for the first time — because that's just how we do things in McIntosh.

Sugar Cane Season
Is Here Again

Every year from November through March, we fire up the kettles and run the press. The syrup flows, the smell fills the air, and the line forms at the door. It's the highlight of our year — and we'd be honored to have you be part of it.
